Talk on The Desert Fathers: Searching the Depths of the Unconscious by Father David Abernethy, Tuesday, 5 December, 1-2 PM
Please join in for this talk by Father David Abernethy who will present on a talk entitled "The Desert Fathers: Searching the Depths of the Unconscious"! The Desert Fathers were in essence the first “depth psychologists”. Through the rigor of their ascetic practice and the profound introspection of their self-imposed solitude and silence, they came to know and understand the subtle movements of thought and emotion, and the obscure workings of the unconscious.
This lecture will seek to capture not only the acute observations of the Desert Fathers as a precursor to modern psychoanalytic thought and practice, but what their insights continue to bring to us today. The therapeutic effect formed by “the desert” in the profoundest depths of the human spirit is enduring and universal.
